Adding to the list

Hello, wonderful ladies–

I've been WAY remiss in suggesting books to add to our queue, so here are a few to consider.

THE GLASS CASTLE by Jeannette Walls (nonfiction/memoir)
Pulled from the Amazon abstract: "Jeannette Walls grew up with parents whose ideals and stubborn nonconformity were both their curse and their salvation...In the beginning, they lived like nomads, moving among Southwest desert towns, camping in the mountains. Rex was a charismatic, brilliant man who, when sober, captured his children's imagination, teaching them...how to embrace life fearlessly. Rose Mary, who painted and wrote and couldn't stand the responsibility of providing for her family, called herself an "excitement addict." Cooking a meal that would be consumed in fifteen minutes had no appeal when she could make a painting that might last forever." 288 pp.

THE COLOR PURPLE by Alice Walker (fiction)
This is my "great literature" bid because I've never read it, but I know a number of you guys have already. I know it would be heavy as hell, but it's on my list because everyone I know says it's so beautifully written. Weighs in at 304 pp.

Will update when I come up with a third, happy brainstorming to the rest of you!

Cheers,

Elizabeth
