Book Club Meeting Sunday May 6

Hello, Ladies!

I hope you have all enjoyed or are still enjoying The Color Purple.

We are scheduled to have our meeting this Sunday at 1 pm.

Natasha unfortunately cannot host as planned.  We currently have two options: (1) Natasha potentially could host the meeting in June; or (2) Alexis and I thought it might be fun to change things up this time by meeting at a book club friendly cafe (maybe the Novel on Main Street in Santa Monica? other options?).

Please let us know what your preference is - rain check until a new date or go forward this Sunday at a cafe.  We welcome other suggestions too.

Can't wait to see you lovely people.

Next Meeting May 6 Color Purple

Natasha's house if she isn't in Sweden.  If not, Alexis will host.  Details to follow!

Yea!  See you then!

Next book club pick is...

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (have I got that right?  I seem to get it mixed up a lot.)  We have the added bonus that the movie (starring Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, I think) is coming out starting Christmas Day, so maybe we can organize a screening after we all read it.  No cheating by skipping the book!

And, I have only heard from Alexis as to whether January 29 works better for people than Super Bowl Sunday, February 5.  But I am going to go out on a limb and say that maybe January 29 is better?  I personally am so NOT a football fan, but I plan on watching the commercials and my girl Madonna's halftime show.  Amanda, please confirm that works for you since you are the one hosting!

Happy holidays to everyone!  Looking forward to seeing you all in 2012.  Til then, happy reading!

Please vote!

Hi, guys! We still need to vote on our next book pick.  Please take a look at the list of book nominees and pick the one you most want to read next.  (The non-winning books will still be on the list for our next round!)

Also, please make a post if you have any trouble with the next proposed meeting on Sunday February 5, 2012.  I think Sapna said that she may not be able to make that date.  My trial that was scheduled to start on January 30 got moved, so we could consider Sunday, January 29, as an alternative if that works better all around.

Thanks.

Our next meeting in February 2012

Hello, Ladies!

For our next meeting, we have discussed the date Sunday, February 5 at 1 pm.  Please let us know ASAP if the date does not work for you.  Amanda will host.

We also need your input on which book to choose for our next pick.  I have re-set the vote, so please vote by December 4.

Our new member, Sapna, has added a suggestion to the list of books - Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.  The Wikipedia entry describes the book as follows:  "9/11 is a backdrop for the story of 9-year-old Oskar Schell, who learns how to deal with the death of his father in the World Trade Center.  Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close uses many nontraditional writing techniques known as visual writing. It follows multiple but interconnected storylines, is peppered with photographs of doorknobs and other such oddities, and ends with a 14-page flipbook. Foer's use of these techniques resulted in both glowing praise and excoriation from critics."

Looking forward to it!

Hi all,
I am looking forward to hosting on November 13. My address is 725 Bayonne Street, El Segundo, CA 90245. My cell is (971) 570-5199 in case anyone has trouble finding it. There is plenty of street parking. I have a friendly, non-jumping dog - but please let me know if anyone is allergic or averse, and I will make sure my hubby takes her out.

And the winner is...

The Paris Wife by Paula McClain.

So, run out and get it and we will see you on Sunday, November 13th at 1 pm.

Nina, when you get a chance, please post your address.

So far, I think those you have said they think they can make it are: Nina, Kim, Amanda, Alexis and Natasha.  Look forward to see you then.

Happy reading!
